A man from Canberra has been arrested and charged with several serious offences against his partner following a series of alleged assaults. The 39-year-old resident of Mawson, who had only recently been released on parole in April, is accused of harassing the woman since December of last year.

This week, the victim reported the incidents of abuse to the police, prompting authorities to investigate further. On the following day, law enforcement officials conducted a search of the man’s residence, where he was subsequently arrested and taken to the ACT Watch House.

The charges against him include aggravated assault, choking, suffocating, and strangling another individual, as well as having sexual intercourse without consent and the use of a communication service to harass and menace the woman. The man was due to appear before the ACT Magistrates Court shortly after his arrest.
