Cameron Waters kicked off his Supercars championship campaign in spectacular fashion, achieving a commanding victory at the Sydney season opener. While Waters enjoyed what many considered to be one of the most decisive wins of his career, Broc Feeney faced disappointment after making a critical error that cost him a podium finish.
During the race under lights at Sydney Motorsport Park, Feeney, who was in second place, ran wide at turn three, damaging his left-rear tyre. Despite being one of many drivers to make this mistake, he was the only one to suffer a puncture. After a time-consuming pit stop for a tyre change, he returned to the track in last place before managing to recover to 14th at the finish. Reflecting on his performance, Feeney expressed frustration over the “stupid mistake” that ruined a promising race.
Waters, starting from pole, surged ahead from the beginning and ultimately won by a significant 16.8 seconds over Chaz Mostert. The race saw a strong showing for Ford Mustangs, claiming the top four spots. Waters acknowledged the importance of this victory, highlighting the team’s turnaround following a difficult previous season and expressing hope for continued success in the races to come.
