Bunnings has significantly broadened its assisted living product offerings to cater to the increasing needs of older Australians and individuals with disabilities. The new range boasts over 2,500 products spanning 16 categories, including bathroom and bedroom safety items, ramps, smart home technology, and aids for daily living.
Ryan Baker, the Chief Operating Officer of Bunnings, emphasised that this initiative aims to fill critical market gaps and respond effectively to community needs. He acknowledged the unique challenges faced by those living with disabilities and older Australians, underscoring the intent of the Assisted Living range to transform their homes into more accommodating environments.
Recent data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics reveals that over 5.5 million Australians live with a disability, while more than one in six individuals are aged 65 and above. According to the National Disability Insurance Scheme, there are 4.3 million individuals with disabilities across the nation, with an expectation to provide funding for an additional 500,000 people in the next five years.
Bunnings is tapping into this extensive market, recognising the “huge potential” within this expanding category. Baker noted that many existing market offerings are fragmented, and Bunnings seeks to provide a comprehensive shopping experience that is both affordable and effective for customers aiming to enhance their living spaces.
The new selection prioritises safety, style, and functionality, recognising that customers desire a variety of choices to suit their individual needs. Products are now purchasable in-store, online, and via Bunnings Marketplace, with additional proforma invoicing available for those accessing government assistance.
Through this initiative, Bunnings aims to foster an environment where customers can conveniently find suitable solutions that enhance comfort and independence in their homes.
