On Easter Sunday, a tragic incident occurred at South West Rocks, north of Port Macquarie, resulting in the death of nine-year-old Kaison Greaves after he became trapped between rocks. His mother, Brook, mourned her son and celebrated his adventurous spirit in a heartfelt tribute shared on Facebook, expressing deep gratitude towards the local community for their efforts in trying to rescue him.

Kaison, often referred to as Kai, was remembered as a vibrant and energetic child who brought joy to those around him. Brook described him as an “adventurer” with a “free spirit,” who was always eager to explore and experience life at full speed. She fondly recalled how he would always be several steps ahead, exuding a mix of chaos and love from the moment he was born prematurely. Brook characterised him as her “sun,” in contrast to his brother, whom she called her “moon.”

In her emotional post, Brook acknowledged the community’s support in Kai’s final moments, remarking on the efforts of those who tried to save him. She reflected on his unique qualities, such as his bright personality and remarkable agility, which often had him running, climbing, and jumping around.

To honour Kai’s memory, a candlelight vigil was held at Main Beach in South West Rocks, drawing hundreds of community members together to pay their respects. The incident has prompted an investigation to uncover further details surrounding his tragic accident. Reports indicate that emergency responders faced challenging conditions as they attempted to reach Kai, who was reportedly submerged in water at the time of the rescue effort.

In the wake of this heartbreaking event, Brook’s tribute not only highlights her profound loss but also cements Kaison’s legacy as a spirited young boy whose adventurous nature touched many lives.
