The Brisbane Broncos will be missing key centre Kotoni Staggs for about four to six weeks due to a severe quadriceps injury sustained during their last pre-season game. Head of performance, Dave Ballard, confirmed that Staggs is already engaging in a rehabilitation programme to expedite his recovery.

In contrast, front-row star Payne Haas appears set to play in the first round against the Roosters despite concerns about an aggravated ankle injury that forced him to leave the field early. Expert commentary from rugby league legend Cooper Cronk reassured fans about the situation, highlighting the Broncos’ depth in the centre position. With players like Deine Mariner, Selwyn Cobbo, Delouise Hoeter, Jesse Arthars, and Josiah Karapani in their ranks, the team has adequate replacements to manage Staggs’ absence.

Mariner is expected to step in for Staggs, showcasing his potential as a promising talent. New coach Michael Maguire could also utilise Cobbo in either the centre or wing positions to enhance team performance.

Additionally, the Broncos will be without fringe first-grader Jock Madden, who is sidelined with a low-grade hamstring strain, and Jack Gosiewski, who cannot participate due to concussion protocols. The team is gearing up to face the Roosters at Allianz Stadium next Thursday night, aiming for a strong start to their premiership campaign despite these challenges.
