Ezra Mam’s comeback to rugby league took a troubling start when he was reported for a high tackle just moments into his return in a Queensland Cup match. This follows a nine-match suspension handed down by the NRL after Mam was involved in a car accident that injured three people while driving under the influence of drugs and without a licence.

Playing for the Souths Logan Magpies, Mam encountered issues early in the game against the Western Clydesdales. During a two-man tackle in the opposing team’s territory, he was reported for a high tackle on prop Lachlan Mears-Crabbe, who was left momentarily dazed on the field. Such reports in reserve-grade matches count towards NRL suspensions, meaning a further ban for Mam could derail his anticipated return to the top grade against the Dragons next week.

In the same match, Souths Logan secured an emphatic victory, defeating the Clydesdales 66-10. Mam managed to contribute positively to his team’s performance by scoring a try, while teammate Tyson Smoothy had a standout game with two tries.

Mam’s potential suspension would be a significant setback, especially with the Broncos looking to fill the gap left by the injured Ben Hunt, who sustained a serious hamstring injury during a recent match against the Rabbitohs, which the Broncos lost 22-14.

As Mam navigates this turbulent period, both he and the Broncos are eager for his successful return to higher-level gameplay.
