At the recent swimming world championships in Singapore, Max Giuliani eagerly awaited his turn in the men’s 4x200m freestyle relay, while fellow swimmer Flynn Southam provided him with crucial encouragement. Southam, who led off the Australian team, was thrilled with helping secure a bronze medal, and shared a moment of camaraderie with Giuliani, describing their interaction as “secret boy stuff” during an interview with former Australian swimming star Cate Campbell.

The youthful quartet of Southam, Charlie Hawke, Kai Taylor, and Giuliani teamed up to capture Australia’s 13th medal of the championships. Southam, at just 20 years old, highlighted the team’s energy and potential for future success, especially looking ahead to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. He noted, “The future’s bright,” in reference to their impressive performance.

In the relay, Great Britain clinched the gold medal with a time of 6:59.84, while China took silver at 7:00.91. Australia finished closely behind in 7:00.98, showcasing their competitive spirit. Hawke, who made his senior Dolphins debut in this event, expressed how special the moment was for him, stating, “It’s a truly special moment… Standing on the podium tonight feels so good.”

As the team celebrated and reflected on their achievement, the excitement about their potential was palpable, marking a promising future for Australia’s competitive swimming landscape.
