In a tragic incident at Manns Point, Greenwich, emergency services responded swiftly at around 4:20 PM yesterday after a car crashed through a fence, collided with a 74-year-old woman, and subsequently plunged into the Parramatta River. Nearby swimmers bravely rescued the injured woman from the water.
By 6:30 PM, rescuers discovered the body of an 83-year-old man in the river, following initial unsuccessful search efforts. Reports indicate that this man had a connection with the woman. Meanwhile, divers are currently working to recover the submerged vehicle, believed to be at a depth of ten metres, as visibility remains poor, according to Fire and Rescue NSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry.
The woman sustained significant injuries, including a suspected broken ankle, and was transported to Royal North Shore Hospital for treatment, where she was treated for additional bruises, abrasions, and shock.
Authorities have commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
