Meafua, unable to swim, tragically went underwater, prompting several individuals to jump in to rescue him; however, he failed to resurface. Acting Inspector Shane Thow remarked on Sunday that it was a regrettable accident, clarifying that there was no evidence of reckless behaviour involved. Following the incident, a comprehensive search commenced, involving Water Police, ground patrols, Polair, and the SES, which continued throughout the day. Unfortunately, Meafua’s body was discovered the following morning.
