BMW Australia is initiating a recall of over 270 vehicles due to concerns regarding a manufacturing defect that may pose a fire risk. The recall specifically affects the 520i and X3 models from the years 2024 and 2025.

According to the recall notice, the issue revolves around a potential flaw in the assembly of an electrical connection within the vehicles’ starter generator. This defect may result in a sudden loss of power while driving. Additionally, the faulty connection has the capacity to generate excessive heat, which could ultimately lead to a fire within the vehicle.

The implications of this defect are serious, as it heightens the likelihood of accidents that could result in severe injuries or fatalities for those in the vehicle, other road users, and even bystanders, alongside the possibility of damage to property.

Owners of the affected models are urged to promptly reach out to their authorised BMW dealer for necessary repairs, which will be conducted at no cost. For further information regarding the recall, individuals can contact BMW Australia’s recall hotline at 1800 243 675.
