A fire has devastated the historic wedding venue, The Loxley on Bellbird Hill, located in Kurrajong Hills, north-west Sydney. The incident occurred at approximately 7pm, prompting emergency services to respond to reports of flames in the main reception building.
Despite the efforts of firefighters, the main structure was irreparably damaged, resulting in the loss of this cherished venue and affecting nearby buildings. Fire services managed to gain control of the flames by 10.30pm, but crews remained on-site into the early hours to address lingering spot fires.
Deputy Captain Phillip Hurst, one of the initial responders, noted, “The main building, because of the structure, it’s old, it’s wooden… no matter what we did, there was no way we were going to save it.”
While the cause of the fire is currently under investigation, authorities do not consider it suspicious. In a related incident, a 40-year-old man was hospitalised for burns sustained while attempting to extinguish the fire himself.
The Loxley has long been a popular venue for couples wishing to celebrate their weddings, and its destruction raises uncertainty for upcoming celebrations planned at this iconic location.
