A recent report from Australian telcos reveals the significant role mobile phones play in our daily lives. In 2024, Telstra recorded an astonishing 60 million phone calls each day, while Vodafone reported around 11 million calls, indicating billions of calls annually. Interestingly, Fridays emerged as the most active calling day, with Black Friday surpassing even Mother’s Day for call volumes.

Text messaging remains prevalent too; Vodafone customers send an average of 2.9 messages a day, amounting to approximately 2.7 billion texts per year, whereas Telstra users send about 40 million texts daily. Notably, February 13 marked Vodafone’s busiest texting day, likely due to last-minute Valentine’s plans.

Data usage is also staggering, with Telstra handling nine million gigabytes daily, which is equivalent to binge-watching a streaming service for 342 years. Optus’ figures show close to three million gigabytes used each day, while Vodafone customers average about one gigabyte per day.

As individuals increasingly rely on their smartphones for communication and entertainment, the trend shows no signs of slowing down, signifying a growing dependence on mobile technology for connectivity and information.
