Fans of the hit Australian animated series Bluey can look forward to an exciting new development: the beloved Heeler family is set to make their big-screen debut. The BBC has announced a partnership with Walt Disney to produce a feature film based on the popular children’s show, which first premiered on ABC Kids in 2018.
However, viewers will need to be patient, as the film is scheduled for release in cinemas in 2027, followed by streaming on Disney+. Bluey has gained immense popularity globally, even clinching BAFTA and Emmy awards, and became the most-watched show in the United States this year, racking up over 842 million hours of viewing.
The movie will be produced by Ludo Studio in Queensland, with Joe Brumm, the show’s creator, at the helm as writer and director. The Queensland government is enthusiastic about the project, forecasting that it will generate 130 jobs locally and inject $35 million into the state’s economy. Brumm expressed excitement about expanding the storytelling possibilities, saying it’s a natural progression for Bluey to transition to a theatrical format, something he has always envisioned for the show.
