An armed man, who is believed to have been en route from Indiana, was shot by Secret Service agents near the White House following a confrontation. This incident occurred around midnight on Sunday (3pm AEDT), with no other injuries reported. At the time of the shooting, US President Donald Trump was in Florida.
The confrontation arose after the Secret Service received alerts from local police regarding an individual who was potentially suicidal. Upon locating the man’s vehicle and someone matching his description, officers approached the scene. According to a statement from the Secret Service, the individual then brandished a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation during which agents discharged their weapons.
The man was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment, though his current condition remains unknown. The involvement of law enforcement in the shooting has prompted an investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department.
