An intense second-division football match in Spain culminated in chaos after Zaragoza’s goalkeeper, Esteban Andrada, struck Huesca’s defender Jorge Pulido in the face. The altercation began when Pulido approached Andrada late in the game, leading to a shove and the Argentine keeper’s dismissal following a second yellow card. In retaliation, Andrada, believing Pulido had feigned a fall, punched him, igniting a full-blown brawl involving players and coaching staff from both teams.
During the skirmish, Huesca’s goalkeeper Dani Jiménez received a red card for hitting Andrada. Another Zaragoza player, Dani Tasende, was also sent off amidst the unrest. Following the incident, the 35-year-old Andrada expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging the negative impact on both his club and professional standards. He apologised directly to Pulido and anticipated disciplinary consequences from the league.
In the wake of the incident, Huesca’s manager, José Luis, reflected on the inappropriateness of the melee, noting that such events were unjustifiable and detracted from the spirit of support for Aragonese football. He hoped the media would concentrate more on the match itself, despite its lack of positive highlights.
Zaragoza issued a statement condemning Andrada’s actions, branding the brawl as unbecoming of the sport and vowing to implement proper disciplinary measures. They emphasised that the images from the match did not represent their values as a club, particularly in terms of sportsmanship and respect for opponents.
Ultimately, Huesca secured a narrow 1-0 victory, with both teams struggling near the bottom of the second-division standings.
