It has been a decade since Rockstar Games launched Grand Theft Auto V, a title that has significantly transformed the entertainment landscape. The controversial game has raked in over $8 billion (AU$12.5 billion) in revenue, highlighting its monumental success. In an exciting announcement, Rockstar has revealed that a trailer for the upcoming sequel will be released next month, coinciding with the company’s 25th anniversary.
GTA V set astonishing sales records, generating $815 million (AU$1.27 billion) within its first 24 hours and surpassing $1 billion (AU$1.56 billion) in sales within three days, making it the fastest-selling entertainment product ever. Its earnings far outstrip those of top films; for instance, James Cameron’s Avatar franchise garnered $2.9 billion and $2.3 billion from its first two films, while Avengers: Endgame reached $2.7 billion (AU$4.22 billion).
The anticipation for the next instalment remains high, but details are limited until the trailer is unveiled. Rockstar’s president Sam Houser emphasised the company’s mission to establish video games as a vital component of contemporary culture, a vision that GTA V has undeniably fulfilled.
