In the early hours of this morning, a dramatic incident unfolded in Canley Heights, Sydney, when a luxury SUV reportedly speeding along Canley Vale Road crashed into a parked car and a postal van, ultimately ending up overturned. Witness Dianne Ung described hearing a loud bang at the time of the crash.
Upon arrival, police found the wreckage but initially could not locate the driver. Shortly afterwards, the 27-year-old female driver returned to the scene and was promptly arrested. Following a breath test, she allegedly registered a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.152, more than three times the legal limit. The woman has since been charged with drink driving and unlawfully using her phone while driving.
Matthew Souksoy, the owner of the parked vehicle that was totalled, expressed his devastation as his insurance had recently expired. He had plans for a trip overseas, but the incident has left him thousands of dollars out of pocket. He described the driver’s actions as “pretty dumb,” questioning how someone could crash at 2am.
Thien Nguyen, the postal van driver affected by the collision, also shared his distress, stating the crash has left him unable to work. The woman accused of the incident is expected to appear in court next month to face the consequences of her actions.
