Alex de Minaur of Australia is set to rise to No.6 in the ATP rankings this week, despite narrowly losing to Carlos Alcaraz in the Rotterdam Open final. The 26-year-old will move ahead of both Novak Djokovic and Daniil Medvedev, equalling his career-high ranking, which he first achieved post-Wimbledon last year.
In the final, second-seeded de Minaur was defeated by the top-seeded Alcaraz, who triumphed 6-4, 3-6, 6-2, marking his first indoor title and making history as the first Spanish champion in the event’s 52-year tenure.
Alcaraz expressed his satisfaction with his performance throughout the tournament, especially given he wasn’t feeling at his best due to a cold. De Minaur, who also reached last year’s final only to lose to Jannik Sinner, expressed pride in his efforts, noting his struggles off the court. He reflected on his consistent pursuit of better achievements, hoping to one day grasp the winner’s trophy. Despite the challenging circumstances, he acknowledged having chances during the match but credited Alcaraz for capitalising on crucial moments.
