The Liberal Party is bringing a fresh twist to the 2025 federal election campaign with a humorous “diss track” aimed at Labour’s economic strategies. This new song, referred to as a blend between Kendrick Lamar’s artistry and the dynamics of Question Time, delivers a direct message through rap—capturing the essence of political commentary.

Titled “Leaving Labor,” the track, which was released shortly after Peter Dutton’s campaign launch, features an unidentified rapper who cheekily critiques the rising prices of everyday essentials. Lyrics that express frustration over the cost of living resonate with listeners, as he muses about the high prices of groceries, reflecting the struggles many face. The song, shared on SoundCloud, has already garnered close to 1,000 streams since its release.

The Coalition’s spokesperson characterised this one-minute track as a serious message packaged in an engaging format, remarking that it “drops harder and faster than interest rates under Labor.” Accompanying the song is an album cover that features a photoshopped image of Anthony Albanese’s face on the iPhone shrug emoji, further amplifying its tongue-in-cheek nature.

This isn’t the first instance of the Liberal Party using catchy tunes to enhance their election efforts. Previous campaigns have similarly employed memorable lyrics, such as Scott Morrison’s campaign song, which playfully alluded to Labour’s budgeting issues in a style reminiscent of a classic children’s rhyme.

Overall, the release of “Leaving Labor” exemplifies the Coalition’s innovative approach to contemporary political campaigning, merging entertainment with policy critique to connect with voters in a relatable manner.
