Recent polling data indicates a significant shift in public perception favouring Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese over Opposition Leader Peter Dutton in the lead-up to the May 3 federal election. Albanese now holds a decisive 42% to 33% lead over Dutton as the preferred prime minister, a notable change from the previous month’s figures, which showed Albanese at 35% and Dutton at 39%.
When respondents were asked about their first preference for party affiliation, 37% indicated the Liberal Party, a decrease of two percentage points, while support for Labor rose by four percentage points to 29%.
In terms of performance ratings, recent weeks have seen a positive shift for Albanese, with 38% of voters assessing his performance as good compared to 49% who deemed it poor. This results in a net performance score improving from minus 22 to minus 11. On the other hand, Dutton’s performance rating stands at 37% good and 47% poor, translating to a net score of minus 10, down five points from last month.
In total, 3,237 eligible voters were surveyed between Wednesday and Saturday as part of this poll, reflecting a tangible movement in support as election day approaches.
