Collingwood midfielder Jordan De Goey is set to return from injury for the team’s match against the Western Bulldogs at the MCG this Friday night. De Goey’s last appearance for the Magpies was in Round 21 last year, where he contributed 12 disposals and two goals against Carlton before suffering a hamstring injury, which ultimately cut his season short.

Following a challenging 2024 season that saw him play only 13 games due to injuries, De Goey has worked hard to regain his fitness. He spent part of the off-season in Qatar, addressing his health issues, including a persistent groin complaint. After completing a rigorous training program, De Goey received clearance to play following a successful run in the Magpies’ main training session on Tuesday.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast, De Goey expressed relief at being pain-free and eager to return to the field, saying, “It’s back to normal, which is nice.” Although he faced challenges during pre-season, including bone bruising in his knee, he believes his physical condition is where it needs to be as he prepares for his comeback.

De Goey commented, “I’m pretty close [to full fitness],” noting that while match fitness differs from training readiness, he feels prepared to compete. He plans to ease into the game to ensure his legs are ready for play. Working with Collingwood’s head of fitness, Jarrod Wade, they carefully crafted a fitness strategy that both De Goey and the team adhered to diligently.

This weekend’s match not only marks De Goey’s return but also holds significance for the Bulldogs, who will honour their club’s centenary by playing under their historical Footscray name. The game is anticipated to attract one of the largest crowds for a home-and-away match as Bulldogs fans celebrate this milestone.

Kick-off is scheduled for 7:40 PM AEDT, so supporters will be looking forward to witnessing De Goey’s performance as the Magpies aim for a strong showing against their rivals.
