The Australian Electoral Commission (AEC) is actively recruiting staff in rural and regional areas to assist with upcoming federal elections. Individuals from various regions, including parts of the Northern Territory, regional Queensland, Western Australia, and remote communities in South Australia and New South Wales, are encouraged to apply.
No previous experience is necessary for positions that involve counting votes, managing polling booths, and handling administrative and logistical duties. The AEC is particularly seeking individuals in the following locations:
– Queensland: Capricorn Coast, Far North, Northern, Mount Isa, Western and South West, Mackay, Isaac, and Whitsunday
– South Australia: Limestone Coast, Eyre Peninsula, Kangaroo Island, and Far North
– Western Australia: Pilbara, Gascoyne, Wheatbelt, the Kimberley, South West, and Goldfields-Esperance
– Victoria: Loddon, Mallee, the Grampians, and Gippsland
– Tasmania: Western Tasmania
– New South Wales: Central West, Riverina, Central Coast, Mid North Coast, and Orana
– Northern Territory: Katherine and Alice Springs
The AEC reports record-high voting enrolment figures, prompting a need for increased staffing to ensure that all residents have the chance to vote. AEC Commissioner Jeff Pope noted that while most metropolitan roles have already been filled, there remains a significant demand for workers in regional areas.
Historically, these regions have seen lower participation in election-related employment, but the AEC is committed to opening all designated polling places. The organisation invites community members to take advantage of this opportunity to earn supplementary income and support local voting efforts.
To qualify, candidates must be at least 18 years old, hold Australian citizenship, and demonstrate political neutrality.
