The family of 20-year-old Summer Fleming, who was tragically killed in the Hunter Valley region of New South Wales, has shared heartfelt tributes to her “beautiful spirit.” Her boyfriend, 31-year-old Jethro Gamueda, has been charged with her murder after Fleming was discovered dead at his home in Rutherford, bearing facial injuries.
Gamueda appeared in Parramatta’s Bail Court, where he did not seek bail and will remain in custody until his next court date in October. The couple had been in a relationship for just over a year, having met while working together at Rydges in the Hunter Valley.
Fleming’s sister, Ash Heggie-Martin, described her as “one of a kind” and expressed profound sorrow over the circumstances of her death, stating, “No person deserves to die like that, especially such a beautiful young soul.” This sentiment resonates deeply as Summer had aspirations to become a nurse, reflecting her caring nature.
Her passing adds to the worrying trend of violence against women in Australia, with Summer being one of many who have lost their lives to domestic violence this year. In her memory, her name was inscribed on the She Matters Mural in Melbourne, a poignant reminder of the lives lost to such tragedies.
The family continues to honour Summer’s legacy, cherishing her spirit and the love she shared with those around her.
