Adelaide Oval is set to enhance safety measures for this weekend’s Gather Round, following recent security concerns at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. With over 200,000 fans expected to attend five matches, the venue emphasises that the safety of attendees is its foremost priority.

Nick Addison, the chief executive of Adelaide Oval, stated, “It’s our responsibility to continue to earn the right to host Gather Round.” He highlighted the stadium’s commitment to improving safety standards, saying, “We’re fully focused on trying to raise the bar every year.” Addison acknowledged that while security enhancements are necessary, the aim is for attendees to feel secure without being overtly aware of the measures in place.

Attendees should expect increased police visibility, enhanced security protocols, and detailed bag checks throughout the event. On match day, Adelaide Oval staff face the challenge of preparing the stadium within just 90 minutes for the subsequent game, which requires meticulous planning and execution, as noted by curator Damien Hough.

In addition to the matches at Adelaide Oval, the Barossa Valley will celebrate its first Gather Round with the new Lyndoch precinct, which will host a vibrant food and wine village, creating a festival-like atmosphere. The local venue, The Clubhouse, anticipates hosting over 7,000 guests, with general manager Jack Ferrett describing it as an unmissable experience for football enthusiasts and wine lovers alike.

Overall, both the Adelaide Oval and the surrounding venues are gearing up for a remarkable weekend that prioritises safety while offering enjoyment for all.
