Frank Dimasi, a 93-year-old man, has passed away following his conviction for the fatal stabbing of his wife, Maria Dimasi, in their Adelaide home. The court announced his death today. Known affectionately as Nonna Maria, she was tragically found with 76 stab wounds in December 2023.
A judge concluded that Frank was mentally competent at the time of the incident, which occurred after 67 years of marriage. Despite being diagnosed with dementia later, the court determined that his attack on Maria was not influenced by this condition. Ultimately, he was found not guilty of murder, instead being deemed mentally incompetent to stand trial. Following the verdict, he was placed in supervised care, where he remained until his death.
Maria Dimasi was celebrated for her contributions to the community, notably her work with Nonna’s Cucina, a meal service that resonated deeply with many. Those who knew her spoke highly of her kindness, describing her as someone with “a heart of gold.”
