Charanpreet Singh, a 23-year-old man in Adelaide, recently recounted the harrowing experience of being violently assaulted by a group of racially motivated attackers over a parking dispute. The incident took place on Saturday night on Kintore Avenue, leaving Singh with severe injuries, including brain trauma and multiple facial fractures, prompting him to seek hospital treatment overnight.

Singh described how he was approached by the group, who hurled racist comments at him, including a derogatory remark before physically attacking him. The situation escalated quickly, resulting in Singh being beaten unconscious and left in a vulnerable state.

Authorities arrested a 20-year-old man from Enfield on Sunday, charging him with assault causing harm. Meanwhile, police are appealing to the public for assistance in identifying the other attackers who fled the scene.

The violent attack has sparked significant outrage within Adelaide’s Indian community, with many individuals voicing their support for Singh on social media. Reflecting on the impact of the attack, Singh lamented, “When things like this happen, it makes you feel like you should go back… You can change anything in your body, but you can’t change the colours.”

The incident has also elicited strong condemnation from South Australia’s Premier, Peter Malinauskas, who stated that any acts of racial violence are entirely inappropriate and do not align with the values upheld by the broader community.

As investigations continue into this distressing matter, the call for justice emphasises the need for societal unity against discrimination and violence.
