The family of a woman severely injured by a van while walking her dog in Adelaide is demanding accountability, particularly questioning whether the elderly driver should have been driving. The woman’s husband has been at her side at the Royal Adelaide Hospital since the incident occurred yesterday morning.

According to the husband, they were crossing Montacute Road when the 91-year-old driver turned into their path despite the couple having a green light. Traffic camera footage appears to confirm that the driver did not see them approaching. The husband raised his arms in a bid to alert the driver but was knocked down, resulting in the van colliding with his wife. She sustained life-threatening injuries and underwent several hours of emergency surgery before being admitted to intensive care. Reports state that the 48-year-old woman has multiple head injuries and numerous broken bones.

The elderly driver from Rostrevor has since been reported for dangerous driving and has had his licence suspended. The husband and their teenage son are adamant that the accident could have been avoided and that the driver was unfit to be on the road. As of now, the woman remains in a critical but stable condition, and the 91-year-old driver is expected to appear in court at a future date regarding the incident.
