A man has been apprehended following an incident in which he allegedly created a hole in the roof of a family home in Kilburn, Adelaide, during the early hours of the morning. The family was awakened around 4am by the noise of footsteps overhead, leading to panic among the residents. One family member recounted the moment, expressing fear and disbelief about how the individual managed to reach the roof.
The family’s son was awake and observed the ceiling starting to show signs of damage, suggesting that the intruder used his foot to break through. Initially, the family considered that the disturbance might have been caused by a tradesperson returning to complete work on recently installed solar panels.
A nearby resident noticed the man on the roof and attempted to engage him in conversation, asking what he was doing up there. This distraction allowed the police to arrive on the scene. They negotiated with the man until he eventually climbed down from the roof with the aid of a ladder.
The 42-year-old man, who was found to be from another state, has been charged with being unlawfully on the premises, property damage, and unlawful possession. He has opted not to apply for bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Monday.
