The Newcastle Knights are poised to select Dominic Young as soon as next week, following confirmation from Sydney Roosters coach Trent Robinson regarding the young player’s impending departure. While neither club has officially announced the mid-season transfer yet, both coaches have acknowledged the ongoing situation.

Robinson mentioned at a post-match press conference that further clarity on Young’s situation would likely emerge soon, stating, “I think it will get cleared up tomorrow.” He confirmed that Young is expected to join the Knights on Monday.

Recently, Young has been playing in reserve grade after being dropped from the Roosters’ starting lineup in round 11. He made a brief return in the following match against the Sharks due to Robert Toia’s absence for State of Origin matches.

This transfer will see Young return to the Knights, the team where he made his debut in 2021. Knights coach Adam O’Brien has refrained from delving into contract specifics but expressed that Young would be warmly welcomed back by the squad. O’Brien stated, “Absolutely I will. Didn’t want him to go in the first place,” and hinted that they might be discussing his selection very soon.

O’Brien added that the team would be gaining more experience with Young’s arrival, alongside Bradman Best and Tyson Gamble for the next round. However, he expressed pride in the current team’s efforts.

Knights captain Dane Gagai, on the other hand, focused on the immediate task at hand, stating, “I’m just focused on getting into the top eight.” He acknowledged that if Young were to join, the team would embrace him, but emphasised the need to return to winning ways, irrespective of how the victories are achieved.
