South Australia’s Premier, Peter Malinauskas, has announced that renowned rock band AC/DC will headline the Adelaide 500 supercars event this November. This exciting development, initially revealed by 9News, follows 18 months of discussions aimed at bringing this iconic group to the event.

Malinauskas highlighted that the presence of AC/DC is set to significantly enhance the stature of the Adelaide 500, which takes place on the streets of the city. For a ticket price of $99, fans will have the unique opportunity to experience both the Supercars Grand Final and a live performance by AC/DC simultaneously. “It’s like getting two events for the price of one,” said Malinauskas, emphasising the value this brings to attendees.

The agreement to secure AC/DC’s performance reportedly involved taxpayer-funded incentives; however, Malinauskas assures that it’s a sound investment, as the revenue generated will be recouped. He expressed confidence that the event will be financially beneficial for the state.

While there were considerations to host the concert at the Adelaide Oval, logistical complications related to accommodating the supercar audience led to the decision to stage the concert in the surrounding parklands. Malinauskas noted the importance of this performance, suggesting it could be one of AC/DC’s last live shows in Australia, making the event particularly special.

Tickets for the BP Adelaide Grand Final, which includes access to the AC/DC concert, will be available for purchase starting at 10am on Thursday. This event promises to be a significant milestone in Adelaide’s cultural calendar, combining the thrill of motorsport with the electrifying energy of live rock music.
