Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has announced that Vice Admiral Mark Hammond, the current Chief of Navy, will assume the position of Chief of Defence. Chief of Joint Capabilities, Susan Coyle, will take over as Chief of Army. In a statement, Vice Admiral Hammond expressed his eagerness to embrace the challenges that lie ahead in his new role.

Both Hammond and Coyle are set to begin their new positions in July. This leadership transition follows the departure of Admiral David Johnston, who has served in the Australian Defence Force for over 48 years.
