In the early hours of the morning, a father defended his family from a home invasion at their Morningside residence in Brisbane’s south-east. The incident occurred around 2.40am when a group of intruders broke into the home, demanding the man’s keys. In an act of bravery, he used a chair to fend off the attackers, resulting in injuries that included cuts, bruises, and potential ligament damage.
Following the altercation, police are investigating the incident and believe the intruders escaped in a black sedan, which was reported stolen earlier from Cannon Hill. This group is suspected of being involved in several other burglaries and car thefts in the area that night.
One victim, Alex Hamze, unaware that he had been targeted, received a call from police notifying him that his wife’s wallet had been discovered, leading him to realise they had been burglarised. Hamze expressed his anger upon noticing his car door ajar, confirming that items had been taken.
Additionally, another burglary was reported in Bulimba shortly after 11pm, where an offender entered a home and stole property before fleeing in a vehicle. Detectives are actively pursuing leads in these cases and are appealing to the public for any information or surveillance footage that might assist their investigations.
