Victoria Police are appealing to the public for assistance regarding the suspicious death of Richard Wills, a 65-year-old man who was tragically shot and buried in the state’s north-west region. Wills was last seen on Sunday, April 5, around 8 am, as he left his residence on Hughs Street in Ouyen, supposedly heading to work on his rural property along the Mallee Highway.

Concerns arose when Wills failed to return for lunch, prompting his family to search the property. His wife reported him missing the next day when he still had not come home. In response, police commenced an investigation and began searching the property where Wills’ body was discovered around 1.30 pm on April 7. He had been shot and buried in what was described as a shallow grave.

Detective Senior Sergeant Steve Trewavas from the missing persons squad has communicated that Wills clearly fell victim to foul play. However, the circumstances surrounding his death remain murky—specifically, who was involved and their motives. Detective Trewavas expressed hope that the public appeal will encourage individuals with relevant information to come forward, assuring that they can do so anonymously. This information is vital to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Authorities are actively seeking any leads or tips that could assist in this ongoing investigation.
