In recent allegations reported by CNN, multiple women have accused California Congressman Eric Swalwell of various forms of sexual misconduct, including incidents which they describe as nonconsensual sexual contact. One woman, recalling an incident in 2024 after she had left Swalwell’s office, stated she repeatedly pushed him away while saying no, but he did not stop. This was reportedly the second such incident involving Swalwell; during an event in 2019, she woke up naked in his hotel room after a night of heavy drinking, with no recollection of how she got there, but confirming they had had sexual contact.
Further testimonies from three other women revealed accusations of unsolicited explicit messages and inappropriate behaviour from Swalwell. One woman described an experience where, after a night out, she ended up intoxicated in his hotel room—details of which she recalled being muddled by her inebriation. Another, Ally Sammarco, shared her experience of receiving unsolicited explicit photographs from Swalwell after initially reaching out to him regarding politics, which later escalated to sexually suggestive exchanges.
Swalwell has categorically denied these allegations, calling them false and suggesting they may be politically motivated as he campaigns against a rival for the governorship. His legal team has issued cease-and-desist letters to at least two of the accusers, insisting their claims are false and implying inconsistencies based on their previous interactions with Swalwell.
Corroborating details from acquaintances of the women have emerged, with several confirming they were informed about the incidents shortly after they occurred. One woman, who claimed to have been assaulted in 2024, provided medical records for STD testing undertaken following the alleged attack, emphasising the emotional toll and long-term effects of these interactions on her life.
Many of the women described a concerning pattern of behaviour from Swalwell, wherein he initially exhibited charm and interest in their professional aspirations before transitioning to inappropriate and often aggressive advances, particularly when they were drinking. Several women opted to remain anonymous for fear of retaliation, underscoring the power dynamics involved.
While some former staffers defended Swalwell’s character, the allegations have gained traction amid growing discussions on social media, leading these women to come forward feeling less isolated in their experiences. The revelation of these incidents intersects with Swalwell’s emerging candidacy, prompting many to speak out for accountability, despite personal hesitation and fears of potential backlash.
