Life360, a global technology firm, has announced significant job cuts as it transitions to an AI-focused operating model, with CEO Lauren Antonoff stating that “the roles people play are shifting”. The restructuring, revealed via a detailed LinkedIn post, involves reallocating resources to embrace new capabilities while acknowledging the difficult decisions made regarding personnel changes. “This shift requires difficult trade-offs that impact good people,” Antonoff expressed.

While she did not disclose how many positions were eliminated, Antonoff emphasised that the changes were not purely about cutting headcount but rather a response to the transformative effects of AI on the workforce. She noted that AI is not simply improving existing tasks, but is reshaping the nature of work itself. This restructuring aims to prevent Life360 from falling behind in a rapidly evolving technological landscape.

Antonoff remarked, “We’re uncovering new needs and seeing that the roles that made sense in a pre-AI world are no longer effective.” She believes that immediate action is essential to realise the company’s potential and to continue meeting the needs of families that rely on their services. Consequently, the company has opted for a swift transition, despite the pain it causes.

Following this announcement, shares of Life360 dipped by 3.3%, trading at $19.46 on the ASX. Life360, which has over 500 employees working remotely across the globe and has a presence in Australia, previously celebrated a record year in 2025 with its revenue increasing by 32% to $US489.5 million (around AUD 692.5 million). Antonoff reported that, for the first time, the company achieved a net income, reflecting operational discipline and the effectiveness of its freemium business model.

Moreover, in a broader context, the tech sector has experienced substantial job losses this year, with at least 23,000 positions cut as companies adapt to AI integration. This includes significant cuts from major players like Atlassian, Block, and WiseTech.

As Life360 embarks on this new chapter, it underscores the shifting dynamics in the tech industry and the impact of artificial intelligence on employment and workplace structures.
