Adam Pompey faced an unsuccessful hearing at the judiciary on Tuesday, resulting in a two-game suspension due to dangerous contact with Briton Nikora. The incident occurred during the Warriors’ 36-22 defeat to the Sharks on Sunday when Pompey was attacked and subsequently tackled by the Sharks’ second-rower, Nikora.
Despite the game continuing, the match review committee determined that Pompey had raised his knee during the tackle, which led to Nikora being injured. Following the incident, Nikora immediately left the field and received medical attention, as he was seen holding his nose. Commentator Michael Ennis highlighted the situation, noting that Nikora had been previously injured with a broken nose.
Nikora, who had recently recovered from a similar injury sustained during the All Stars game, showed visible signs of discomfort and was attended by the team trainers post-incident. Before the tackle, he had missed the Sharks’ round-four match because of the injury.
After the hearing, Pompey’s initial one-game suspension was increased to two games when the judiciary found him guilty of a grade-two offence. As a result, he will miss the upcoming matches against the Storm and the Titans. Despite the setback, Nikora has been named in the squad to face the Roosters this week, indicating a swift return to play after his injury.
