Tributes are pouring in for a Victorian grandmother who tragically lost her life in a devastating head-on collision in southeast Queensland during the Easter long weekend. Roza Abebwa, a 51-year-old from Wyndham Vale, was leaving her grandson’s birthday celebration in Logan, south of Brisbane, when her vehicle was struck by another car.
Authorities are looking into whether a group of four teenagers in a Ford Falcon ute had participated in a hooning event at Logan Reserve prior to driving at high speed on the wrong side of the road. The ute collided directly with the Ford Focus in which Roza was a passenger.
In the crash, Roza’s two-year-old daughter and her 28-year-old niece sustained injuries and are currently recovering in hospital. Roza is fondly remembered by her family as a warm-hearted woman who brought joy to those around her. Her sons expressed their grief, with Rashidi Edward stating she was “one of the best human beings,” while Gode Edward lamented the unfairness of her untimely death, describing her as innocent.
As the family prepares for Roza’s funeral, they’ve initiated a fundraising campaign to facilitate her return to Melbourne. Her sons are also using this moment to issue a stark warning about the risks associated with reckless driving. “It just takes one second,” Gode cautioned. “You may think it’s fun, but there are people out there, and things can happen. It’s not fair.”
So far, no charges have been filed in connection with the incident.
