A 67-year-old man has been charged with murder following his arrest at Melbourne Airport as he attempted to board an international flight on Friday. The charge comes after police discovered a body, believed to belong to a missing woman, earlier that day in Little River.
The woman, aged 53 and from Dandenong, was reported missing on Thursday when she failed to make contact with her family, which raised concerns. Local authorities initiated a probe into her disappearance, labelling the circumstances as suspicious.
Later that afternoon, detectives from the Missing Persons Squad located a female body near Little River Road and the Princes Freeway and promptly established a crime scene. While the body has yet to be formally identified, it is believed to be that of the missing woman.
The man arrested is currently remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear in court for a bail hearing tomorrow. The investigation continues as police delve deeper into the matter.
