Beaumont Lamarre-Condon, a former police officer, is facing a double murder trial that has been ongoing for several months. The 30-year-old has entered a plea of not guilty to the charges of murdering television presenter Jesse Baird and his partner, flight attendant Luke Davies, at their home in Sydney’s inner city in February 2024. Notably, Lamarre-Condon had a brief romantic relationship with Baird.
As the trial approaches, prosecutors are expected to summon a substantial number of witnesses, with estimates ranging between 200 to 300 individuals. However, discussions between the legal teams may reduce this number to approximately 100 witnesses who will provide direct testimony during the proceedings. The trial is set to commence in September and is anticipated to last around three months.
During a recent brief court appearance via audio-visual link from Long Bay prison, Lamarre-Condon appeared in a green prison-issued top and confirmed that he could hear Justice Natalie Adams of the NSW Supreme Court. The case has drawn considerable public attention, particularly due to Lamarre-Condon’s status as the first serving NSW police officer charged with murder in decades.
Allegations suggest that Lamarre-Condon fatally shot Baird and Davies at Baird’s Paddington residence before allegedly disposing of their bodies at a rural location. Following the incident, he surrendered to authorities, was charged with murder, and subsequently dismissed from the police force. Lamarre-Condon joined the NSW Police in 2019, and his legal team is currently awaiting crucial evidence, including materials from telecommunications experts, crime scene reconstructions, and transcripts of calls made during his incarceration.
In a notable twist, his court case is poised to return for further sessions on May 29, where more details and developments are expected to emerge.
