Police searching for a missing person discovered what are believed to be human remains under a tarp near a residence in Glenorie at around 11 am yesterday. The remains have since been identified as belonging to John Birch, a 39-year-old father, who is fondly remembered by friends and family as a generous and kind-hearted individual.
In the wake of this tragedy, his friend Kerry Gillett expressed sorrow, commenting on the tragic nature of Birch’s death and highlighting his selfless character, stating, “If he liked you, he would give you the world.”
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding Birch’s demise, including whether he was struck by a utility vehicle on Gleness Street early that morning. Local residents, including Glenorie resident Bob, reported hearing a loud bang around that time. Birch was known to frequently visit a nearby house situated about 100 metres from where the remains were found.
After the discovery, the property became a focal point for investigators, with detectives and forensic specialists collecting evidence for over 24 hours. The occupants of the house, comprising two men and a woman, have been arrested and questioned, though they have since been released without charges. During their time in custody, an attempted break-in occurred at the residence, reportedly by an unknown individual seeking drugs and cash.
As police continue their inquiries, they await results from a post-mortem examination to establish the cause of death. The investigation remains active as they work to uncover the details surrounding this heartbreaking incident.
