Victor Radley is set to make an earlier-than-anticipated return to the Sydney Roosters following the club’s decision to reduce his suspension from ten matches to nine. The forward had received the lengthy ban due to his involvement in a drug-related incident last year. Although he missed three Test matches for England, two pre-season games, and four NRL matches, the Roosters are now counting the bye week towards his suspension.

In an official statement, the Sydney Roosters announced that Radley would be eligible for selection starting from round six of the 2026 season. The club imposed the most severe penalty in its history on the player in September 2025. The decision to allow Radley’s earlier return was made after a proposal from director of football Mitchell Aubusson and head coach Trent Robinson, outlining the steps Radley had taken since his sanction was enacted. The board unanimously supported the proposal.

Alongside the suspension, Radley’s pay had also been halted for ten weeks, and he was fined $30,000, which was to be donated to St Vincent’s Hospital. His suspension stemmed from a police investigation involving former teammate Brandon Smith, although Radley himself faced no charges.

During Radley’s absence, the Roosters have struggled with inconsistency on the field. They began the season with a heavy defeat, losing 42-18 to the Warriors, but rebounded to defeat rivals South Sydney 26-18. However, they faced another significant loss against the Panthers, ending 40-4. The team displayed flashes of improvement with a 33-16 victory over Manly, contributing to the sacking of Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold.

In summary, Victor Radley’s earlier return from suspension is seen as a significant boost for the Roosters, who have experienced turbulent performances in his absence. The club’s management has acknowledged the changes Radley has made since the incident, demonstrating a commitment to his rehabilitation and potential reintegration into the team.
