Australia is currently experiencing a significant heatwave, with temperatures soaring as much as 15 degrees above the March average. The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) has issued heatwave warnings, particularly affecting the southeast regions due to hot winds sweeping in from the interior of the country. This spell of unseasonably hot weather is set to peak today across much of Australia, while Sydney is expected to encounter its highest temperatures tomorrow.
As a result of this heatwave, regions of the country will experience temperatures ranging from the mid to high 30s, with some inland areas in New South Wales (NSW) and South Australia potentially reaching the low 40s. For instance, Adelaide is forecasted to hit a scorching 39 degrees, Melbourne around 34 degrees, Canberra 35, and Hobart a balmy 26 degrees. Sydney, expected to reach 37 degrees during the peak of the heat, is preparing for an uncomfortable evening tonight.
In addition to the soaring daytime temperatures, certain areas in Victoria and NSW may witness record-breaking minimum temperatures for March. The prevailing dry and windy conditions have raised concerns about an elevated fire risk, prompting BoM to anticipate the issuance of extreme fire danger warnings for parts of NSW tomorrow.
Fortunately, a cool change is expected to arrive tomorrow night, bringing relief from the sweltering conditions. This shift in weather will provide much-needed respite after a week of oppressive heat across various regions of Australia.
