Manly Sea Eagles coach Anthony Seibold has expressed that he will not waste energy on speculation regarding his job security, particularly after supporters voiced their dissatisfaction during the team’s recent 33-16 defeat to the Sydney Roosters. The Sea Eagles, who took a 10-8 lead into half-time, struggled in the second half, conceding three tries within just six minutes, ultimately sealing their fate in the match. Fans reacted strongly, booing skipper Daly Cherry-Evans and chanting for Seibold’s departure as they faced another home loss, leaving them winless in 2026 and at the bottom of the league table.
In the aftermath, Seibold remained defiant, claiming he was unaware of the fans’ chants, stating, “What do you want me to do? I turn up, work hard for the group.” He highlighted the effort the team displayed, suggesting that their fighting spirit prevented a more significant loss despite being significantly out-possessed and defending an astonishing 53 sets of six. He noted that only the club’s ownership, led by Scott Penn, can determine his future, and he believes in the team’s potential to succeed moving forward.
Seibold pointed out the effort of his players in contrast to a previous match against the Knights, even if the result didn’t reflect it. He emphasised that his focus remains on improving the team rather than dwelling on outside noise regarding his tenure.
Team captain Tom Trbojevic acknowledged the mixed response to Cherry-Evans from the fans, indicating that while the former player’s past connections to the club would always be a topic, it should not detract from the team’s performance. He defended fans’ rights to their opinions, noting, “If they want to boo him, they can boo him.”
With an 0-3 start to the season, the Sea Eagles look to turn their fortunes around in the coming weeks, facing the Dolphins, the Dragons, and the Cowboys as they seek to garner their first victory of the year.
