In a thrilling start to the Supercars race at the Australian Grand Prix, Broc Feeney secured a commanding victory for Red Bull, marking a 1-2 finish for the team. Feeney cleanly took the lead from the get-go, but the race was far from dull as skirmishes erupted throughout the field, with ten cars jostling for position in the opening laps.
The action intensified when several vehicles made contact, leading to a spin for Kai Allen at the final corner. Shortly after, a collision involving Macauley Jones saw Aaron Cameron get stuck in a gravel trap at turn three, prompting the deployment of a safety car. This brief pause restructured the field, but the chaos resumed once the race restarted on lap ten.
Tickford’s Cameron Waters and Thomas Randle, who had faced a dismal qualifying, began their ascent through the pack. However, Jack le Brocq was spun out of a strong fourth place due to contact with Brodie Kostecki. The race took another dramatic turn when James Golding collided with a tyre barrier, sending his vehicle airborne before sustaining damage that forced him into the pits.
As the race neared its conclusion, Cooper Murray was spun out of the top ten after an incident with Nick Percat. Despite a challenging start, Waters made the most of the frantic conditions, finishing in sixth place, while Randle followed close behind in eighth. Ultimately, the safety car meant the race concluded one lap short of its intended length of 19 laps.
In a post-race interview, Feeney expressed his delight, stating, “It’s so good to be back at the grand prix. The team deserved this win.” Meanwhile, James Courtney was forced to withdraw from the race due to a significant crash earlier in the day during practice.
Looking ahead, the weekend features another Supercars race on Friday, followed by two qualifying sessions and another race on Saturday, culminating in the final race on Sunday as part of the larger Formula 1 Grand Prix festivities.
