A Titan Arum plant, commonly referred to as the “corpse flower”, is anticipated to bloom tonight at Collectors Corner Garden World in Braeside. The flower bud, affectionately nicknamed “Tiny”, is forecasted to start closing partially by tomorrow morning and will be about 90% closed by the end of the day.

Staff at the garden centre have indicated on social media that they will be closely observing Tiny, as they believe today might be the day of the significant bloom. This event has drawn considerable attention, with many enthusiasts tuning in to a livestream that captures the plant’s subtle movements.

Visitors to the garden centre in the past have described the distinct odour of the flower as reminiscent of “a garbage bin filled with rotting fish” and “a dead possum”. Jeno Kapitany, the owner of Collectors Corner Garden World, stated that experiencing the smell in person is essential to truly grasp its unique nature.

This isn’t the first time a Titan Arum has made headlines at the Braeside location; another flower bloomed there in 2016. As the countdown to tonight’s potential bloom continues, anticipation builds among flower enthusiasts and curious onlookers alike.
