In just over two months, Sydney is set to dazzle with the 15th edition of the Vivid Festival, which has now unveiled its complete programme. This year promises an abundance of free events, with an exciting new extension on the north side of the Harbour Bridge. Notably, the “Light Walk” will be fully complimentary, allowing visitors to enjoy a scenic journey from Circular Quay through Walsh Bay and Barangaroo to Darling Harbour without any ticket fees.
Attractions will also pop up in locations such as Martin Place, the CBD, Surrey Hills, and the Ultimo Goods Line, further enriching the festival experience. Minister for the Arts, Music, and the Night-time Economy, John Graham, highlighted the festival’s commitment to addressing the current cost-of-living pressures by expanding free activities, making it easier for everyone to enjoy a lively night out without stretching their budgets.
Unlike last year, many paid events, including the Dark Spectrum light display in the Wynyard Train tunnels and the enchanting Lightscape at The Royal Botanic Gardens, will not be featured in this year’s lineup. Instead, the festival will debut a ticketed “Stranger Things” experience at Luna Park, intriguing fans of the popular series. Food enthusiasts can look forward to a special dining event curated by celebrity chef Nigella Lawson, promising to tantalise taste buds amidst the festivities.
However, safety concerns have led to the cancellation of the much-anticipated drone show due to overcrowding issues witnessed at Circular Quay last year. The overwhelming turnout had caused chaos, with thousands flocking to the waterfront to witness the spectacle. Despite these challenges, organisers maintain a positive outlook and expect large crowds during this year’s festival, further solidifying Vivid Sydney’s reputation as a must-see event on the cultural calendar.
