As the polls prepare to close in the final hour of the 2025 Western Australia state election, both major party leaders have already cast their votes. Labor leader Roger Cook, voting in Kwinana, emphasised the significance of democratic participation, noting that individuals across the globe fight for the opportunity to vote and influence their leadership.
Meanwhile, Liberal leader Libby Mettam made her ballot selection in Dunsborough. Despite her efforts, the Liberal Party is faced with a steep challenge to regain power, requiring a substantial swing in favour of their candidates. This uphill battle is largely a result of the Labour Party’s extraordinary success in the 2021 elections, where they secured an impressive 53 out of 59 seats in the lower house, driven by the popularity of then-premier Mark McGowan and his effective management of the COVID-19 pandemic. Notably, Labour received nearly 70 per cent of the two-party preferred vote during that election.
As the election progresses, all eyes are on the outcomes, with fervent anticipation regarding how voters’ choices will shape the future governance of Western Australia.
