Las Vegas Incident Overshadows NRL Season Opener
The NRL is currently investigating a disturbing allegation involving Warriors assistant coach Richard Agar, who is said to have assaulted an English journalist during half-time of the season-opening match against Canberra. The journalist, whose name remains confidential, reported that Agar allegedly seized him by the throat within the confines of the press box at Allegiant Stadium.
In addition to the physical confrontation, the journalist claims he was subjected to verbal abuse by Agar during the incident. The NRL has acknowledged the situation and plans to initiate an inquiry in the coming days, including reviewing CCTV footage from the stadium.
This alleged altercation appears to be rooted in a previous commentary made by the journalist back in 2022, in which he suggested that Agar should be dismissed from his coaching position at Leeds in the UK Super League. Warriors chief executive Cameron George is also aware of the incident and intends to conduct a separate investigation when the team returns to Auckland on Monday.
Despite the fight for justice surrounding this incident, it occurred against the backdrop of what was otherwise a celebrated football event in Las Vegas.
