The action sports community is expressing profound grief following the sudden passing of Australian snowboarder Luke Trembath, affectionately known as “The Dingo,” at the age of 38. The announcement of his death emerged on Thursday, with the exact cause yet to be disclosed.
Born in Mt Martha, Victoria, Trembath discovered his passion for snowboarding at just nine years old. By the age of 11, he was already making a name for himself on the national circuit and began competing internationally with Team Australia when he was 13. Shortly thereafter, he moved to the US, first settling in Colorado, then California, with his mother supporting his aspirations by relocating with him for training.
At only 17, Trembath became a professional snowboarder and co-established Grenade Gloves, a well-known snowboard glove brand. He also starred in five seasons of the Fuel TV series “The Adventures of Danny and the Dingo,” alongside Olympic silver medallist Danny Kass, and hosted the “Unleashed Podcast” with Kass and former UFC ring girl Brittney Palmer.
His tragic passing has sparked heartfelt tributes from notable figures in the action sports arena. Skateboarding icon Tony Hawk remarked on Trembath’s joyous spirit, stating, “His laughter was magically contagious,” and praising him for being a unifying presence within the community. Canadian singer Avril Lavigne reflected on the joy Trembath brought to his friendships, saying, “Thank you for some of the best times.”
Former NASCAR champion Kurt Busch and other personalities, including Jeff Baker from Snowboard Magazine and TV star Holly Madison, shared their fond memories of Trembath’s warmth and energy, emphasising how deeply he touched their lives. Australian BMX rider Jaie Toohey described him as one of the most remarkable individuals he had ever met, highlighting his great heart.
Monster Energy also paid tribute, honouring Trembath’s infectious passion and energy, which inspired countless individuals. Reports indicate that Trembath had been grappling with the recent loss of his older brother, enhancing the sorrow surrounding his departure.
In a previous interview, Trembath spoke about his journey, emphasising the importance of the experiences over reaching a destination. His words reflect a life lived fully, dedicated to pursuing his dreams and connecting with others.
Luke “The Dingo” Trembath’s legacy will undoubtedly endure, marked by his unparalleled spirit and the indelible impressions he left on all who knew him.
