Construction is progressing on Australia’s latest luxury hotel, the Waldorf Astoria, located in Sydney’s Circular Quay. This high-profile project, which has a budget of $520 million, is owned by Hilton and has reached a significant milestone with the completion of its 26-floor structure.

The Waldorf Astoria brand, synonymous with luxury since its inception in New York City, aims to bring an extravagant experience to Sydney, incorporating local Australian touches, as stated by Lendlease’s development chief, Tom Mackellar. Positioned between the iconic Sydney Opera House and Harbour Bridge, the hotel promises stunning views of the harbour and is set to feature 227 opulent rooms.

In addition to luxuries like a rooftop bar, the hotel will host a restaurant run by a celebrity chef, whose identity remains a secret. Paul Hutton, area vice president of Hilton Hotels, highlighted the unique design of a bar that will extend outwards, providing guests with direct access to the main dining area below.

The hotel is anticipated to welcome its first guests by late next year. As the opening approaches, calls for surrounding area development are growing, particularly concerning the renovation of the ferry terminal and Cahill Express Way.

The project is backed by iconic Australian billionaires, Nicola and Twiggy Forrest, with Tattarang CEO John Hartman expressing pride in showcasing the best of Australia to a global audience through this venture. Sydney Lord Mayor Clover Moore echoed the sentiment by urging for further infrastructure improvements in light of the ongoing construction progress.
